Edo govt says no reconciliation with Oshiomhole until he apologises to Obaseki

The Edo State government has ruled out possible reconciliation with the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole until the former governor return back to the State and apologise to governor Godwin Obaseki, Blueprint.ng report.

Both the former Edo State governor and his successor have been in a crisis of interest over the control of the APC in the state.

The State government had on Monday said it will petition the I spector General of Police and the Director-General of State Security Service (DSS) to arrest and prosecute the APC National Chairman for breaching the state law banning political rally.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shuaibu, who represented his boss at a Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) meeting, told newsmen that the only condition for him to be on the same page with his estranged political father is for the national chairman to support his boss (Obaseki) for his second term bid.

When asked to state the condition for peace to reign politically between him and Oshiomhole, the duty governor said:

“The only condition for two us to be on the same page politically is for him (Oshiomhole) to come back to Edo state as a father and say what has happened is in the past I believe now governor Obaseki has taken the governance to the next level and for all of us to come back together and vote him for the second term. When he (Oshiomhole) does that I will now be on the same page with him politically.”

Responding to accusation that he (deputy governor) betrayed Oshiomhole, Shuaibu said:

“The issue of betrayal is relative. Whoever has said I betrayed Oshiomhole, I don’t know what they meant by that.

“Oshiomhole remains my father and I remain his son although presently we are on different pages politically and it is bound to happen. It doesn’t change the fact that he remains my father and it doesn’t change the fact that I remain his son but what is critical is that we have disagreed on the issue of the governor of Edo State. I am supporting Governor Obaseki because he has not changed what we believe in. He has not deviated from what Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole started and the foundation he laid.”
