A mother has been jailed for two years and four months after she took her baby to a night club and then fell asleep on top of him.

Marina Tilby, 26, was reportedly seen throwing and catching her son while clubbing with her sister in west Wales.

Taking her baby back to a caravan with the two men, Swansea Crown Court heard that the four-month-old was found unresponsive with blood in his mouth in the early hours of March 31, 2017.

According to court reports, Tilby’s sister came into the bedroom and found the 26-year-old lying face-down on top of her baby.

Her sister immediately jumped into action and pulled the infant out from under the reckless mother only to notice blood coming from the baby’s nose.

According to Tilby’s sister, she was unable to wake the drunken mother and took baby Darian to Bronglais hospital where he later died.

Although the cause of death could not be determined, Tilby pleaded guilty to the wilful neglect of her son and was sentenced to over two years incarceration.

Addressing the 26-year-old, Judge Paul Thomas said: ‘It is a mother’s responsibility, a mother’s duty, and her natural instinct to put the care and safety of her four-week-old child above all else.

‘You completely ignored that duty so you could get extremely drunk on a night out.’

‘So drunk were you that you fell into a deep sleep and slept on top of your baby. There came a time when he was not moving. He had blood in his mouth, but you didn’t realise because you were so drunk.

‘You showed deliberate disregard for the welfare of your son.’
