Edo State Government commenced its demolition exercise of illegal structures and those without proper approval in Benin City yesterday 24th October.

The demolition affected some structures under high tension cables on second Ugbor by Abuja quarters, in Benin City.

On the video shared by ITV and narrated by Wellington Akodeja, the owners of the shops that were affected appealed to the government to relocate them to another area.

One of the victims, Mrs Rose Aisiriuwa said, it is rumoured that they are criminals in the area, added that she has lived there for over 20 years and there is nothing of such, she also suggested that the government should give them a place where they can be managing to do their trading because the shop is their only source of livelihood.

Another victim, Mr Friday Okpoko pleaded to the government to help them get another place because they have nowhere to go.

However, Edo state government through the office of the commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Eremuna Edorodion warned those building on government land and illegal structure to remove them before the commencement of the demolition.
