UPDATE| Over £48 raise for the Uganda mum found died in Scotland, living in ‘extreme poverty’

The 34-year-old mum, from Uganda, was found dead on Saturday, August 22, next to her malnourished one-year-old son.

A fundraiser described her as “always positive and always put her family first.”

It read: “Her smile made everyone so welcome and comfortable.

“Please consider helping out her loved ones through this difficult time as they navigate this tragedy and move forward in life without her.”

It is understood that Ms Baguma, who was in her thirties, had lost her job after her limited leave to remain expired and she was no longer allowed to work.

She claimed asylum while living in extreme poverty, and was relying on food from friends and charitable organisations.

The Home Office announced it will be carrying out a full investigation into her death.

A Home Office spokesman said: “This is a tragic situation and our condolences go to Ms Baguma’s family.

“The Home Office takes the wellbeing of all those in the asylum system extremely seriously, and we will be conducting a full investigation into Ms Baguma’s case.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of the sudden death of a 34-year-old woman within a property on Kennedar Drive in Glasgow around 11.30 am on Saturday, 22 August 2020.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
