Stephanie Grisham, the former White House communications director and current chief of staff for first lady, Melania Trump, has resigned from her position in the wake of the violent protests by President Donald Trump’s supporters at the U.S. Capitol building.
CNN also confirmed that White House social secretary, Anna Cristina “Rickie” Niceta and White House press aide, Sarah Matthews, also resigned from their positions on Wednesday.
Grisham and Niceta were among the longest-serving Trump administration officials.
“It has been an honor to serve the country in the White House. I am very proud to have been a part of Mrs. Trump’s mission to help children everywhere, and proud of the many accomplishments of this administration,” Grisham said in a statement.

Grisham did not say whether her resignation was in reaction to the violence in the nation’s capital.
“As someone who worked in the halls of Congress I was deeply disturbed by what I saw today,” White House press aide Sarah Matthews said in a statement on Wednesday night.
“I’ll be stepping down from my rope, effective immediately. Our nation needs a peaceful transfer of power.”
Matthews also said, “I was honored to serve in the Trump administration and proud of the policies we enacted.”
Multiple injuries were reported and one woman was killed at the U.S capitol building as Trump supporters stormed the building to protest his loss in November’s presidential election and also stop President-elect Joe Biden’s certification.
